Request a Consult

Knowledgeable about all things green and growing in Zone 4, Haliburton County Master Gardeners will visit your property to advice you on any number of concerns you may have. Good advice can save you hundreds of dollars, time and heartache. You’ll receive a detailed assessment that could include siting of gardens, design advice and plant suggestions. Perhaps you want to transition to an edible landscape or maybe wildscape your shoreline.

Two to three Master Gardeners will visit your property to address your specific and general concerns. We also like to:

  • tour your entire property to get an overall picture before zeroing in on your specific concern(s).
  •  identify the native plants, shrubs and trees on your property for you.
  •  identify invasive and aggressive plants and suggest a management strategy for you.
  • make observations about other issues like drainage, erosion, problem trees, pests and diseases etc.

With a whole site assessment, we can make recommendations on how you can best connect the various parts of your property into a cohesive and functional whole to support wildlife, keep your shoreline healthy and address your recreational needs.

We will recommend plants - mostly native, where and how to plant them.  We will provide you with a detailed written report following our consultation. If you are interested, please complete and submit the online questionnaire below and a lead volunteer will follow up within 2 weeks or less. We suggest a donation of $50 an hour for a 5–8-hour assessment including a report. Our master gardeners volunteer their time. All donations go directly to the Master Gardeners of Haliburton (HCMG) and are used to further the educational work of the organization. Following your consultation, peruse our Buy Local directory of Gardeners for Hire, Landscapers, Arborists and Plant Retailers.

We are aligned with The Natural Edge Programme of Watersheds Canada and for an additional cost the master gardeners can prepare a detailed design and plant list suited to your property.
