Terry Sprague is an Ontario naturalist who lives in Prince Edward County, near the eastern end of Lake Ontario, south of Belleville. His columns on nature have appeared in local newspapers since 1965. Since 1976, he has held positions as a fisheries technician and as an interpretive park naturalist with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, and more recently, as an outdoor educator with a local conservation authority. Now working as a freelance naturalist, he offers guided interpretive hikes and canoe/kayak paddles around the region, focusing on the interesting diversity of both natural and human history that can be found in eastern Ontario. He has been interested in all aspects of natural history since childhood, specializing in ornithology, and holds a diploma in wildlife management and ecology. He is recipient of the 2002 Pioneer Conservationist Award from Conservation Ontario, the 2004 Richards Education Award from Ontario Nature and the 2015 Gold Quill Award from the Canadian Community Newspapers Association.
