While Rose of Sharon is sold in the area, we do not recommend planting unless you have a very sunny area that is protected from all winds and the harsh winter temperatures. Even with those criteria met, the chances of it thriving is slight as our winters are too cold and the summer season too short for ideal growing conditions. If you are looking for flowering shrubs, hydrangeas are especially good for growing in the partial shade often found on lakeshore properties.
